Chair of Fundraising Development Board
London
Summary
My client is looking for a Chair to recruit and lead a group of high profile business professionals and philanthropic donors who will help to attract new income to ensure the long term security of this highly regarded Charity.
Description
The Charity
My client has families at the heart of everything it does. Established forty years ago, the charity has in the last ten years been able to almost double the total number of families it has supported, going from 40,000 families supported between 1982 and 2012 up to a total of 73,000 in 2022. It is an ambitious, caring and vital charity that strives to make the lives of families a little easier when they are going through a traumatic time with a sick child.
The Role
The significant increase in the cost of utilities and staffing is having a critical effect on the operation of the charity. It has therefore decided to appoint a Chair of Fundraising who will immediately fundraise and gain additional contacts to secure major donations or partnerships for these additional costs and set up a development board to recruit board members that can help gain connections and introductions to key people that will be able to help assist in this fundraising activity.
Key Responsibilities
• To provide a lead-in donation that will help to make an initial impact towards the required fundraising target.
• To have overall responsibility for spearheading the recruitment of highly influential board members that have the contacts able to support the charity by way of a significant donation or introduction to corporate partnerships capable of helping to secure the income target over a two year period.
• To recruit board members that are motivated and passionate to fundraise for the charity’s cause.
• Work with the Head of Fundraising to ensure that board members have all the information and resources to make approaches to potential donors.
• To make leadership-to-leadership approaches that will bring new high profile contacts on board to support the charity’s cause.
• To motivate and encourage board members to think about their connections and to make introductions and influence senior decision makers. Ensuring board members think broadly about their key contacts and the associates that they can reach out to for help.
• Encourage Board members to promote the charity’s special events, key messaging and funding needs.
Key Skills and Attributes
• Empathy and passion for the charity’s cause and ideally a connection with its cause.
• Leadership skills developed at a senior level with key influence in their field.
• The profile and gravitas to make key introductions and/or to make a significant ask where appropriate.
• The ability to recruit and motivate people.
• The ability to sustain morale and enthusiasm.
• Willingness to commit to Chairmanship for a period of 2 years.
